Having a good complexion is (understandably) desired by many. Unfortunately, when it comes to your skin, there are always odd working with and against you. Things such as your skin type or acne can be dictated by genetics and is difficult to overcome some problems. I have been quite lucky with my skin, as I have normal skin type, and has always been manageable. Aside from this, I think it is safe to say that I've had my fair share of breakouts. However, there are some small ways to help your skin and since I started doing these things, I found that the regularity and amount of spots I had reduced dramatically.
(Disclaimer: I am in no way a professional, these are just rituals which have helped clear my skin and thought I could pass on the wisdom.)
Eat well- Now I'm not saying drop everything and start pulling out the kale and spinach at every meal, but eating better foods means that you are providing your skin with the nutrients and vitamins that it needs to survive and thrive.
Stay hydrated- I'm sure you've probably heard this from everyone and their mothers by now but that just because this is so important. This will help get rid of toxins in not just you skin, but whole body. I drink at least 2 litres a day and ever since I made an effort to drink more water, I have seen a definite difference in my skin.
Exercise- being more active will help the blood flow and nourish the skin cells as the blood carries oxygen and nutrients to cells around the body.
Face masks-These are great to treat your skin and can help your skin depending on the problem (e.g. removing oils, hydrate, etc.) I tend to use face masks a few times a week to keep my skin clean and happy.
Always take make up off before going to bed- This is a MUST. Although many people tend to hit the hay before taking all of their make up off, this becoming a habit can cause a lot of damage to your skin such as clogged pored, causing breakouts, dry skin and even wrinkles.
Have a regular skin routine- Using products for your skin morning and night, will definitely help your skin as you're cleaning and hydrating your face with a moisturiser on a regular basis. I like to have a very simple skin routine, so I make sure that I do it everyday. You can see my skin routine here.
Get those Z's- Sleeping well is so important if you want glowing skin, As you sleep, your body boosts blood flow to the skin, giving you a healthy glow. I find that hours of sleep is toughly what I should aim for.
Destress!- When we stress, cortisol is released which confuses our hormones and can cause breakouts. Plus, destressing should be important for your overall health. One of the ways that I like to destress is by spending an afternoon pampering myself where I use different face masks, have bath and just have time to myself. (pamper routine post to be!)
So there you go! Those are my ways of keeping my skin as healthy and clear as possible. Just remember, everyone gets spots and know that your not alone in your struggle! Spots are a normal thing so dont be ashamed of the natural appearance of your skin. Stay beautiful!
